Employee Spotlight – Sonya Kohl (Trainer)

Sonya Kohl

e-MDs is dedicated to providing exceptional services and support to our customers. Part of this is recruiting staff that use the company’s vision and spirit as inspiration for how they accomplish their daily responsibilities. Many of them exceed expectations and to thank them for their hard work and dedication, e-MDs spotlights one of it's employees every quarter by asking questions about them- their job, experience, and what they like about working at e-MDs.

This quarter the employee spotlight is on Sonya Kohl.

How long have you been with e-MDs?
Since January of 2008

Any awards or certifications, (internal and external)?
Certified Paralegal; CMT - Certified Medical Transcriptionist

What did you do prior?
EMR Implementation Liaison and IT Systems Administrator for a family practice in Ocala, Florida for 12 years.  Prior to that I was a paralegal in a law office.

What is your current position and what do you do?
Implementation Specialist, aka Chart Trainer

Anything (s) that you particularly enjoy about your position and responsibilities?
I love teaching the software and helping an office implement it.  I also really enjoy a good challenge.  As a trainer, we are often given the task of figuring out a particular workflow that is causing a clinic to struggle.  It is really satisfying when you can go back to the client and present a viable solution that will allow them to use our software to document their workflow electronically and ultimately provide better healthcare for their patients.

Sonya is a super road warrior who will travel anywhere anytime, and makes it work! Clients say her energy is endless, tireless, and very contagious. Her implementation skills and knowledge of small to large clients is top rate” - Tony Burton, Training Manager

What have you learned since being at e-MDs?
1)    That I can pack for a week long trip in under 15 minutes.
2)    That airlines don't have to have a reason to cancel a flight.
3)    My blackberry phone IS my lifeline.
4)   There are at least three ways to accomplish something and get the same result.
5)   That not knowing the answer to a question is not failure, it is an opportunity to learn.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
When I am at home,  I spend quality time with my husband and my children.  We have four,  Brittany, Kasey, Kreig and Sam, the later two are still living at home and we often go hiking and or camping in the mountains.  One of our favorite spots to hike is in Wyoming, in the Vedauwoo (pronounced Ve-da-voo) Mountains.  Hiking in Vedauwoo consists of hopping (aka Bouldering) from rock to rock at an elevation of 9-11,000 feet without repelling equipment. It's  A sure way to forget your stress and concentrate on the task at hand.  Since we live so close to Denver we also enjoy taking in a Rockies baseball game, my favorite player is Todd Helton or an Avalanche Hockey game, nothing like watching them smash into the glass.  Seriously though, with two children still in high school our weekends are also filled with Band trips, Kreig plays trumpet and FFA events as Samantha is the treasurer for the local chapter.  Not much spare time to be had but we try to make sure it is quality time and do something that everyone enjoys.
