e-MDs Partners with Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System

National company selected as electronic health record provider.

August 4, 2009

AUSTIN, TX – e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) solutions, today announced a partnership with Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS), a medical community with over 200 providers in Salinas, California. After a thorough selection process, including assistance from outside consultants, SVMH chose e-MDs Solution Series 6.3.0 as its PM/EHR system. Solution Series will streamline clinical operations and allow physicians to spend more time with patients and less time on billing and scheduling concerns.

SVMHS developed rigorous criteria for the EHR selection process as they had prior experiences with EHR products that did not meet their medical community’s needs. They were looking for a comprehensive program that would be flexible enough to adapt to their multifaceted organization.

The Salinas Healthcare System was attracted to e-MDs’ high rankings on objective EHR evaluations performed by medical societies such as the American Academy of Family Practice and the American College of Physicians. After a successful pilot program at one of its urgent care clinics, SVMHS discovered Solution Series provided ease of use, a minimal learning curve and a versatile, well integrated program. Ultimately, Solutions Series was selected by SVMHS, including for their 12 urgent care clinics from San Jose to Greenfield, because it was easy to implement, adaptable, scalable, and supports sharing of information between healthcare facilities; making it ideal for their multi-specialty medical community.

“Salinas Valley is committed to staying on the leading edge of technology in an effort to offer patients the best care possible. Implementing an EHR that will allow our physicians to become meaningful users of health information technology is part of that commitment,” said Sam Downing, MBA, MPH, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. “We needed a fully-featured EHR that was easy to use, could be implemented quickly, and fully integrated with a robust practice management system. After an extensive vetting process, our physicians and selection committee chose the e-MDs products.”

SVMHS plans to supplement EHR adoption through the Stark Safe Harbor Anti-Trust Exception. This action will allow SVMHS to donate a portion of the costs of software, training and support expenses to Salinas Valley physicians, making it easier for them to meet the meaningful use requirements specified in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. e-MDs will also lend their expertise in implementation to make the process as seamless as possible.

“We are looking forward to working with Salinas Valley Memorial on several health information technology projects. They are a very forward-thinking medical community,” said Dr. Michael Stearns, President and CEO of e-MDs. “Solution Series is a robust, integrated solution that will facilitate successful EHR adoption in a network this large and diverse.”
